The second of Tenuta Fionia’s wines produced in the Marche, Senza Nome (the wine with no name!) is a unique blend of Lacrima di Morro d’Alba, an indigenous red variety from the Marche and the better known indigenous white variety, Verdicchio. By blending in around 10% of Verdicchio with the Lacrima, Senza Nome becomes a wine that is more than a sum of its red and white parts. The distinctive floral aromas of the Lacrima blend perfectly with the richeness of the Verdicchio to give an aromatic, complex and deliciously drinkable red wine.

Vintage 2015 in general
If ever it were possible to describe a near perfect vintage, then in Italy, the 2015 was it. A cold winter and cool, wet spring gave way to a hot summer and a warm harvest period. Near perfect conditions from bud break to picking ensured the grapes arrived in the cellar healthy and perfectly ripe. The wines, both red and white, can be powerful but with great harmony and balance.
The vintage 2015 Senza Nome
Lacrima di Morro d’Alba can sometimes be a challenging variety to arrive at optimum maturity. It produces large berries and bunches and can be a big yielder. The 2015 vintage with its very favourable conditions, helped the vines ripen well, resulting in a fuller, more complex wine than is typical of Lacrima di Morro d’Alba. The Verdicchio, again thanks to a great vintage, arrived in the cellar, perfectly ripe and adds weight, body and depth to the blend.
Techniques used for Wine Production
The Lacrima di Morro d’Alba was completely destemmed and crushed, and then spontaneously fermented in a stainless steel tank with pump-overs three times a day. The fermentation and maceration was relatively short at around 2 weeks, after which the wine was pressed. Free run and pressed wine were kept together and left to undergo malolactic fermentation in tank.
The Verdicchio was taken from part of the 2015 Occhio Verde production.
The two varieties were blended together after about 6 months ageing in tank and bottled shortly after.
